Current Availability Status in Sweden
As of October 2026, the ASUS Googlebook 14 is not officially available for purchase through Swedish retail channels. While Google and ASUS launched the device in the United States on October 4, 2026, followed by launches in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5, Sweden was notably excluded from this initial rollout. A direct search for the product on the ASUS Sweden website (asus.com/se) redirects users to the general homepage, and searching for "Googlebook" on the Google Store Sweden portal returns no results. Similarly, major Swedish e-commerce platforms like Amazon.se do not list the laptop, though third-party accessories such as sleeves and guidebooks are available.
This absence creates a gap for Swedish tech enthusiasts who want access to Google's new Gemini-first laptop line. For international shoppers, this means that purchasing the device requires navigating cross-border e-commerce. Services like Big Apple Buddy allow Swedish buyers to have the laptop shipped directly from US retailers, effectively bridging the availability gap. However, this convenience comes with specific logistical and financial considerations that do not apply to domestic purchases.
Alternatives in the Swedish Market
Before proceeding with an international import, it is worth noting that ASUS does offer other laptops in Sweden. Searches on Amazon.se and major Swedish electronics retailers often surface the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (running Windows 11) and the ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34. While these devices offer similar build qualities and OLED displays, they lack the specific Gemini Intelligence integration and the distinct operating system optimizations of the Googlebook line. If the core functionality of the Googlebook is essential, importing remains the only viable path.
Import Costs: VAT, Customs, and Landed Price
Importing the ASUS Googlebook 14 from the US to Sweden involves significant additional costs beyond the base price. The US MSRP is $1,299.00 for the Core Ultra 5 configuration. To understand the true cost, you must account for Swedish import VAT (moms), currency exchange rates, and potential carrier handling fees.
Breakdown of Estimated Costs
Based on the European Central Bank exchange rate from mid-October 2026 (1 USD ≈ 9.904 SEK), the base price converts to approximately 12,865 SEK. However, this is not the final price you will pay. Sweden imposes a 25% VAT on imported goods. This VAT is calculated on the total value of the goods plus shipping and insurance costs.
- Base Price: $1,299.00 (approx. 12,865 SEK)
- Shipping: Variable (typically $50-$100 depending on carrier)
- Import VAT (25%): Calculated on (Item Price + Shipping)
- EU Customs Duty: 0% (Under WTO Information Technology Agreement for HS 8471)
- Carrier Handling Fee: Uncertain, varies by PostNord/DHL/UPS
When you add 25% VAT to the item price alone, the cost rises to roughly 16,080 SEK before shipping and handling. If you include shipping costs in the VAT calculation, the total landed cost could easily exceed 16,500 SEK. It is crucial to note that the new EU flat 3-euro customs duty introduced in July 2026 applies only to consignments valued at 150 euros or less. Since the Googlebook 14 exceeds this threshold, the 0% duty rate for computers applies, but you must still pay the full 25% VAT.

Warranty and Service Implications
One of the most critical factors for Swedish buyers to consider is the warranty coverage. ASUS maintains an international warranty list, and while Sweden is listed as a covered country, there is a significant caveat for this specific product. ASUS's 2026 international warranty documentation explicitly states that "Units purchased from Best Buy do not qualify for international warranty."
Since the primary US retailer for the Googlebook 14 is Best Buy, purchasing through them or via a reseller buying from Best Buy means you are likely purchasing a unit with limited or no international warranty support. This contrasts with units purchased directly from ASUS or authorized retailers in other regions, which may have broader coverage. ASUS also warns that repairs may take longer for models not officially launched in the destination region, particularly if parts such as keyboards in different languages are required.
What This Means for You
If the laptop requires service in Sweden, you may need to send it back to the US for repairs, which incurs additional shipping costs and complexity. Alternatively, you might need to seek third-party repair services, which could void any remaining manufacturer protections. It is advisable to keep your original US invoice and consider purchasing third-party extended warranty protection if available, though coverage for international imports can be restrictive. For buyers who prioritize peace of mind and local service support, this warranty limitation is a substantial risk factor that must be weighed against the desire for the device.
Hardware Compatibility: Keyboard and Power
Physical compatibility is another area where Swedish buyers must make adjustments. The ASUS Googlebook 14 is designed with region-specific hardware variations. The US model features a US English keyboard layout, which lacks the dedicated Å, Ä, and Ö keys found on Swedish keyboards. Additionally, the power adapter is designed for the US market.
Keyboard Layout Solutions
While the hardware keys are fixed, the operating system (Android/Linux based) allows for software-level input method changes. You can add a Swedish keyboard layout in the settings, but you will still need to use key combinations or on-screen keyboards to type special characters. For a better typing experience, you have three options:
- Keycap Stickers: Apply Swedish character stickers over the existing keys.
- External Keyboard: Use a Nordic-layout USB or Bluetooth keyboard.
- Software Workaround: Rely on the software keyboard and short-term adaptation.
Power Supply Compatibility
The ASUS Googlebook 14 charges via USB-C. Most modern US laptop chargers are rated for 100-240V, meaning they are dual-voltage and compatible with Sweden's 230V power grid. However, you must verify the label on your specific charger. If it is dual-voltage, you only need a simple US Type A/B to Swedish Type F (Schuko) plug adapter. If the charger is not dual-voltage, you would need a voltage converter, which is not recommended for high-power devices like laptops. Using a locally purchased USB-C PD charger with sufficient wattage is often the safest and most convenient solution.
Comparison with German Market Options
For some Swedish buyers, the closest alternative might be ordering from Germany, given the geographical proximity and shared EU market. However, the German launch also presents challenges. The ASUS Googlebook 14 is available in Germany, but stock levels are fluctuating. As of October 2026, the Core Ultra 5 model was listed as unavailable on major German tech sites, while the higher-end Core Ultra 7 version was available at retailers like Saturn for 1,699 euros (approx. 18,935 SEK).
Ordering from Germany avoids the US-Swedish customs complexity, as it is an intra-EU transaction. However, you still face the same keyboard layout issue, as the German model uses a QWERTZ layout, which is also not Swedish. Furthermore, it is unclear whether German retailers like Saturn or Amazon.de consistently deliver to Swedish addresses without additional fees. The price difference is also significant, with the German Core Ultra 7 model being notably more expensive than the US Core Ultra 5 model, even before considering any potential VAT reclaim processes for businesses.
| Market | Model | Approx. Price | Keyboard | Warranty Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| USA | Core Ultra 5 | $1,299 (12,865 SEK) | US English | No International (Best Buy) |
| Germany | Core Ultra 7 | €1,699 (18,935 SEK) | German QWERTZ | EU Warranty (Likely) |
| Sweden | Not Available | N/A | N/A | N/A |
Ultimately, the choice depends on whether you prioritize the lower price of the US model or the potential warranty and logistical ease of the German market, both of which require compromises on keyboard layout.
