Product Description

Say yes to travel, dining out, catered meals and packaged food. The Nima Gluten Sensor allows you to test your food for gluten - anytime, anywhere, in minutes. It's portable and easy to use. Simply place food into the test capsule, insert the capsule into the sensor, and press start. Test capsule required for use and sold separately.
Features
Prepare sample
Dilute thick and dense foods, brightly-colored foods, or dry and powdery foods 1:1 with water, and ensure your sample size is approximately 0.3g or the size of a pea.
Run test
Use clean hands to twist off the top of a new capsule, place a pea-size amount of food into the capsule, and then fully close the top with a click. Twist the top until the colored ring vanishes and the edge is aligned with the side.
Read results
If you see a smile icon, no gluten has been detected. If a plant icon and the words Gluten Found show up, you'll know to avoid the food. An error may also appear if there is an issue with the sample size or capsule.
Antibody chemistry
Detects if the FDA level for gluten-free, 20 ppm, is present. Then, the sensor can display the results.
Battery life
The battery can perform around 40 tests, or live for three months when it's not in use. Use a USB 1.0 or 2.0 micro charger to recharge.
Nima limitations
Nima was not tested on non-food substances such as medications and make up. Also, Nima cannot detect gluten in soy sauce, beer and other fermented or hydrolyzed foods due to their chemistry. You also cannot test alcohol or pure xanthan/guar gum.

Any food substance liquid or solid can be tested with Nima. A few examples of commonly tested foods are french fries, pizza, soups, salad dressings, muffins, cookies, cereals and nutrition bars.
Current testing shows the sensor to be accurate at 20 ppm and above, between 96.9% - 97.2% of the time, for foods as quantified by a lab test (excludes foods not recommended for testing). You can see the full test results and third-party validation on the Nima science page.
Nima cannot correctly detect gluten in fermented foods like gluten free beer, hydrolyzed foods like soy sauce, or high-alcohol-concentration foods like vanilla extract.
Nima cannot correctly detect gluten in barley malt, malt flavoring, malt extract, alcohol, xanthan and guar gum in their pure forms or soylent.
The high concentration of gellem gum and oil make it difficult to test without a high dilution of water to product ratio (3:1) which is difficult to obtain.
