Google's first Googlebooks are five laptops built by Acer, Dell, HP, ASUS and Lenovo, running Google's new Gemini-first operating system. They launch in just seven countries: the US on October 4, then Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia on October 5. Outside those seven, dates are patchy, and there is none at all for the Gulf, Hong Kong or Japan.

The five launch models
Every Googlebook has at least 16GB of RAM, a touchscreen and a backlit keyboard, and Google promises 10 years of updates. The differences are screen, chip, weight and battery. US starting prices are from the makers and Google.

Where Googlebook launches, and where it doesn't
Google's pre-order announcement names seven countries: the United States (October 4) and Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia (October 5). Nothing has been announced for the Middle East or for most of Asia.
- UAE and Saudi Arabia: no Google Store, no local price. Gulf News reported that the UAE "is not part of the initial launch wave".
- Hong Kong: there is no Google Store in Hong Kong at all, and no Googlebook date has been announced.
- Japan: Japanese tech press has confirmed Japan is not a launch region. There are reports that preparations for Japan are underway, but no date or price.
Local launches can change. If your country gets an official release, that is usually the better route, because you get a local keyboard and local warranty. Until then, buying the US model is the most practical way to get one this year.
What's different about a US Googlebook
A Googlebook bought in the US works the same abroad, but four things are worth knowing before you buy.
The keyboard is a US English layout. Units made for the US market come with a US keyboard. There are no Arabic, Japanese kana or Chinese characters printed on the keys. You can still switch the input language in the settings and type in your language, but the key labels stay in English.
The warranty is a US warranty. International cover depends on the brand, and it is limited where the model isn't sold locally:
- Dell offers only limited travel support, and none in countries where the system isn't sold.
- HP honours its warranty only where it services the same model number.
- Lenovo's international warranty applies where the product is sold and serviced.
- ASUS runs an international warranty across a list of countries that includes the US and Hong Kong, although fees may apply.
- Google Store lists the Acer with a one-year International Travelers Limited Warranty.
Check the brand's terms for your country before you choose a model.
The free year of Google AI Pro is not included outside the launch countries. Google's offer is limited to users in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the US. If you live elsewhere, don't count on it.
Some Gemini features are limited by country. Google says the headline features such as Magic Pointer and Rambler are "available for select countries and languages to users 18+", and it has not published the list. The Gemini app itself works in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Japan.
Power: Googlebooks charge over USB-C. ASUS rates its charger for 100 to 240V, and USB-C laptop chargers are normally universal, but check the label on yours. You will need a plug adapter in countries that use Type G sockets, such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong.
Import tax at a glance
Laptops are duty-free in all four countries below, so the cost you pay on arrival is usually just VAT or consumption tax. Your courier may add a small clearance fee.

The Gulf figures come from the GCC common customs tariff, which lists laptops at 0% duty, and from each country's VAT rules. Tax is normally charged on the declared value including shipping, so treat these as estimates.
How to get a Googlebook delivered

- Lowest price, most flexible: the Acer Googlebook 14. It folds into a tablet and supports a stylus, and Google Store lists it with an international travelers warranty.
- Lightest to carry: the ASUS (0.99 kg) or the Dell XPS (1.0 kg).
- Longest battery: the HP, rated at up to 19 hours.
- Biggest screen: the Lenovo Googlebook 15, with a 15.3" OLED.
- Ports: the ASUS has HDMI and two USB-A ports alongside Thunderbolt 4. The Dell has only two USB-C ports.

Googlebook is Google's biggest bet on laptops in years, and for now most of the world can only get one from the US. If you're outside the launch countries, the US model is how you get one in 2026. Just go in knowing about the keyboard and the warranty.
