Googlebook, Google's new line of Gemini laptops, goes on sale in the US on October 4, 2026. The UAE is not on the launch list. Google has announced no UAE price and no UAE date, and Gulf News reported that the UAE "is not part of the initial launch wave". If you want one this year, it has to come from the US.
The good news is that bringing a laptop into the UAE is cheap. Laptops pay no customs duty, so the only tax is 5% VAT. This guide covers what that means in dirhams, what you give up with a US unit, and how to order.

Why you can't buy one in Dubai yet
Google's own Googlebook site has no UAE store. Its UAE pages simply show the US site with US dollar prices, and there is no Google Store for the UAE. Google's pre-order announcement lists seven countries: the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia. None of the Gulf states is included.
Regional launches often follow months later, and some never come. Until Google or one of the five brands names a UAE date, the US model is the realistic option.
What it costs to bring one in: VAT only
You may read online that the UAE charges 5% customs duty plus 5% VAT on laptops. For laptops, that's wrong. The GCC common customs tariff, which the UAE applies, lists "laptop computer weighing not more than 10 kg" at 0% duty, and the UAE is part of the WTO agreement that makes IT products duty-free. The 5% duty rate is the GCC default for other goods.
What you do pay is 5% VAT, which the UAE applies to imported goods. At the fixed exchange rate of about 3.67 dirhams to the dollar:

These are conversions of US prices, not UAE retail prices. VAT is normally charged on the declared value including shipping, and the courier may add a clearance fee, so treat the VAT column as a guide.
Typing Arabic on a US keyboard
A Googlebook from the US has a US English keyboard. There are no Arabic letters printed on the keys. You can add Arabic as an input language and switch between the two. But if you rely on seeing Arabic letters on the keys, you would need keyboard stickers or an external keyboard.
On the software side, the Gemini app is available in the UAE and supports Arabic. Google says some Googlebook-specific features such as Magic Pointer and Rambler are "available for select countries and languages", and it hasn't said whether the UAE or Arabic is included at launch. Assume the core Gemini assistant works and treat the newest features as a bonus if they switch on.
Warranty in the UAE, brand by brand
Every Googlebook we ship comes with its US warranty. How much of it you can use in the UAE depends on the brand, because none of the five models is sold here yet:
- Dell: limited international travel support, and no support where the system isn't sold.
- HP: warranty service only where HP services the same model number.
- Lenovo: international warranty only where the product is sold and serviced.
- ASUS: runs an international warranty across a list of countries, with possible fees. Check that the UAE is covered for this model before relying on it.
- Acer: Google Store lists a one-year International Travelers Limited Warranty.
In practice, plan on the warranty being hard to use until a model officially launches in the region. If that matters to you, read Acer's and ASUS's international warranty terms first, since those two brands have the broadest international programmes.
Power, plugs and the free AI Pro year
Plugs: the UAE uses Type G sockets at 230V. Googlebooks charge over USB-C and ASUS rates its charger for 100 to 240V. USB-C laptop chargers are normally universal, but check the label, and use a US-to-Type G plug adapter.
AI Pro: Google is giving US buyers a year of Google AI Pro, but the offer is limited to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the US. UAE buyers should not count on it.
Type approval: the UAE regulator TDRA exempts telecom equipment imported in non-commercial quantities for personal use from its type approval process. A single laptop for your own use generally falls under that exemption.
